Passing of Retired Charter Member Matthew Feeley

Former President Emeritus NYPD Emerald Society Mathew Feeley passed away on December 11, 2014. Matt was 88 years of age. After graduation from Cardinal Spellman High School, he joined the Navy. He served on the USS Amsterdam light cruiser, in the Pacific during World War II. After returning from the war, Matt went to Manhattan College, where he helped to form the Irish Cultural Society. He joined the Police Department in 1948 serving 29 years in the 17th Precinct in Manhattan.

Matt was a Charter Member of the Emerald Society, serving as a delegate, and a board member. He served on many committees, and gained great respect from all he came in contact with. He was often refer to as the "Conscience of the NYPD Emerald Society". Matt belong to a number of organization such as: PBBA, Holy Name Society, Anchor Club and Div. 15 of the AOH.

Matt was predeceased by his wife Bea, (nee Boyle). Matt's brother Rev. Paul Feeley is a member of the Carmelite Order, and resides in a retirement home in Manhattan. Matt has a daughter Ann Marie Flagherty (Michael), sons: Mathew wife Maureen; Daniel (Ret. Sergeant NYPD) wife Christine; James (Ret. First Grade NYPD) wife Mary, and 12 Grandchildren of which he was very proud.

Services will be held on Friday the 19th of December 2014, at Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly, New Jersey; from 1400 hours to 1600 hours and 1900 hours to 2100. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 10 Country Road, Tenafly, New Jersey, (1 block from the Funeral Home), on Saturday the 20th of December 2014, at 0930 hours. May Matt rest in Peace.
